What is corrugation?
Corrugated - is a method of thermal processing of fabric, which creates parallel volumetric folds resembling an accordion.
The main technical difference between goffered and pleated fabrics is their proportions: the width of the pleat itself is always equal to the width of the hem. This allows the fabric to sit at an angle rather than lie flat, creating a distinct texture.

To create a pleated texture, the material is placed in special cardboard molds and subjected to a press and high temperatures. The most durable effect is achieved with fabrics containing synthetic fibers, such as polyester or viscose. Synthetics retain their shape better and prevent the pleats from unraveling after washing.
Distinctive features
The main feature of pleated fabric is its three-dimensional volume. Due to the structure of the folds, the material is highly elastic and springs back when moved.

Pleated pleats are often used in sun or half-sun cuts. In these garments, the pleats are narrow at the waist and gradually widen toward the hem, creating a flowing, dynamic silhouette. The vertical ribs of the pleats create a play of light and shadow, visually elongating the figure despite the added volume of the fabric.
Most often, pleating is done on lightweight, flowing materials such as chiffon, crepe, or fine silk. This allows the pleats to remain flexible and does not weigh down the finished garment.
What to combine with
When styling pleated garments, contrasting textures play a key role. Voluminous pleated skirts look harmonious with smooth, form-fitting pieces: basic turtlenecks, fine knit tops, or tailored jackets.

For casual looks and a more relaxed feel, pair a midi skirt with chunky knit sweaters, basic tees, and sneakers. A pleated dress can be used as a base for layering, layered over a long blazer or a thick cardigan cinched with a wide belt at the waist.

Care for such items requires special attention. To preserve the pleats' shape, do not iron them while they are flat. Dry cleaning or delicate hand washing in a special bag, with the garment rolled along the length of the pleats, are recommended.
