Sesson haircut: what it is, its features, and how to wear it

What is a sesson haircut?

Sesson haircut The bob is a classic geometric women's haircut with a rounded silhouette and a smooth edge. It was named after its creator, British hairdresser Vidal Sassoon, who developed this architectural shape in the 1960s.

The haircut is based on the "wash and go" philosophy. Thanks to the precise cutting technique, the hair naturally takes on the desired shape without the need for complex styling tools.

Visually, the session resembles a neat cap. With this technique, the ends of the strands naturally curl inward, creating a smooth and voluminous contour.

Distinctive features

Technically, the session is created using a fine-gradation method. The stylist cuts the hair in layers, with each subsequent strand being cut with a millimeter-long extension at a precisely measured angle.

The silhouette's main visual feature is the thick, semicircular fringe. It blends smoothly, without sharp angles or stepped transitions, into the temples, forming a single, continuous arc around the face.

The rounded bangs flow smoothly into the side strands, creating the characteristic silhouette of the haircut.

This architectural shape requires absolutely straight, smooth, and fairly thick hair. On wavy or porous hair, the cut loses its geometric rigidity and graphic lines.

The classic sesson covers the ears and reaches mid-neck. There are also shorter versions that expose the earlobes, and longer versions that reach the collarbone.

How to wear

Everyday styling for a session requires minimal effort. Simply blow-dry your hair with a round brush to gently curl the ends inward and give your strands a glossy shine.

Stylistically, this cut perfectly complements minimalist looks and the retro aesthetic of the 1960s. It pairs harmoniously with A-line dresses, basic turtlenecks, and tailored pieces.

To maintain its shape, a session requires regular touch-ups in a salon, on average every three to four weeks. Strands that grow even a centimeter quickly disrupt the strict geometry and disrupt the intended silhouette.

Large geometric earrings are the perfect accessory for this haircut. They highlight the clean cut at the cheekbones or neck, enhancing the graphic nature of the overall look.
