What is a snood?
Snood — is a scarf closed in a ring, with no beginning or end. In modern terminology, this accessory is also known as a tube scarf, an infinity scarf ( infinity scarf ) or clamp.

Historically, the term had a different meaning: it referred to a hairnet or fabric hood. In the Middle Ages and into the 19th century, women wore similar items to secure their hair at the back of their heads.
In modern fashion, the snood has become a purely neck accessory. Its main design feature is the absence of hanging ends and the need to tie knots, ensuring a secure fit around the neck.
Main types
The accessory is available in various formats depending on the season and purpose.
- Knitted voluminous snoods. Winter models are made of wool, cashmere, or thick acrylic. These items are usually long enough to wrap around the neck twice.
- Lightweight decorative snoods. Spring/summer options made of silk, cotton, or viscose. They add a stylish accent to any look, replacing a classic scarf or necklace.
- Snood pipe (buff). A short, single-turn style made of fleece or thin, stretchy knit. It fits snugly around the neck and is widely used in sportswear and outdoor wardrobes.
- Snood-bonnet. A wide and long model, designed to be worn around the neck and thrown over the head at the same time, instead of a traditional hat.

How to wear
Long snoods can be worn loosely, wrapped in a single wrap. This creates an extra vertical line and visually elongates the figure. For maximum warmth, wrap the scarf twice around the neck.
Voluminous knit snoods pair best with smooth outerwear textures. They look harmonious with classic drape coats, leather biker jackets, or down jackets without a massive collar.

A wide snood can double as a headdress. The back of the ring drapes over the head like a hood. This technique allows you to maintain your hairstyle and completely replaces a hat in your winter look.
In everyday wardrobes, thin knit or silk snoods are worn over basic pieces. They are paired with long-sleeved tops, turtlenecks, or crew-neck sweaters to create a sophisticated layering effect.
