What is a beanie hat?
Beanie hat (from English) beanie — colloquial "head", "bob") is a tight-fitting knitted or jersey hat without ties, earflaps or a visor.
Historically, this garment was part of the work uniform. In the early 20th century, mechanics, welders, and loaders wore these hats to keep their hair off their faces without the need for bulky, brimmed hats. The beanie's distinctive design lies in its cut: it is knit in the round (seamless) or sewn together from several wedges converging at the crown.

The headdress is made from a variety of materials: wool, cashmere, cotton, acrylic, or blended yarns. The variety of materials allows the beanie to be worn both in winter and in the off-season.
Main types
Depending on the length, volume and knitting method, there are several basic models:
- Classic beanie with turn-up. A basic, densely knit design. The bottom edge folds over, creating an extra layer of warmth around the ears and forehead.
- Long beanie (slouchy). A model with an increased length that forms a loose fold (overhang) at the back of the head.

- Docker hat (fisherman beanie / watch cap). A cropped style with a wide, tight cuff. It sits shallowly and leaves the ears open or partially open.
- Chunky knit beanie. A voluminous hat made of thick yarn. It is often decorated with textured patterns (braids, ribbing) and can be accessorized with a pom-pom.
What to combine with
The versatility of the shape allows beanies to be incorporated into various stylistic directions, maintaining a balance of volumes and textures.
- Casual style. Smooth knit beanies can be combined with puffer jackets, parkas, sweatshirts and denim jackets.
- Smart casual. A minimalist cashmere beanie in a basic shade (black, gray, camel) is worn with a classic double-breasted wool coat or a strict trench coat, creating a contrast between formal and relaxed styles.

- Sports images. Thin knitted models without cuffs are combined with fleece tracksuits, tracksuits and sneakers.
- Rule of proportions. Chunky knit beanies balance out chunky outerwear like oversized down jackets and faux fur coats. Slim, form-fitting styles complement fitted jackets and leather biker jackets.
