What are cuffs?
Cuffs An ear cuff (from the English word "ear cuff") is a type of ear jewelry that allows you to decorate not only the earlobe but also the auricle, cartilage, or the area behind the ear. The key feature of this item is that it can be worn without piercing thanks to special fastening mechanisms such as clips or temples.
The cuff's design distributes the weight of the piece across the entire ear. This allows for the wearing of massive, multi-tiered jewelry without weighing down the earlobe. Historically, such accessories originated in ancient times and in traditional Indian culture. They entered modern European fashion in the mid-20th century, and experienced a new peak in popularity in the 2010s.

Main types
There are several basic designs of cuffs, which differ in the type of fastening and visual volume.
- Minimalist clamps — small, open rings or wide metal plates. They are fixed to the middle or upper part of the cartilage by gently compressing the metal and do not require piercing.
- With behind-the-ear hook — large, accent jewelry that wraps around the entire ear. They are secured behind the ear with a curved headband, similar to a telephone headset.

- Combined — models that require one standard piercing. The lower part is inserted into the earlobe like a stud, and the upper part is secured with a clip to the cartilage.
- With chains — elegant variations of combination designs. The stud in the lobe and the clip on the cartilage are connected by one or more thin cascading chains.

How to wear
The basic technique for styling ear cuffs is asymmetry. A large, statement piece is worn on only one ear, while the other is adorned with a simple stud or minimalist ring. Another popular technique is ear stacking, which involves combining several thin ear cuffs of varying widths and textures on a single ear cartilage, along with basic earrings in the lobe.

To make the jewelry visible, cuffs are worn with hairstyles that reveal the ears. Slicked-back hair, high ponytails, sleek buns, short haircuts, or hairstyles where the hair is tucked behind the ear on one side are all suitable.
When choosing a cuff, consider the context of the outfit. Thin metal rings without stones fit into casual and relaxed business attire. Larger models with rhinestones, feathers, or complex geometric designs are used as a standalone accent in evening outfits.
