What is a Peter Pan collar?
Peter Pan collar - This is a flat-lying turn-down collar with rounded ends that fits tightly to the neckline and does not have a stand.

The term originates from a 1905 Broadway production. Actress Maud Adams, who played Peter Pan, wore a costume designed by John White Alexander. The wide, rounded collar was the key feature of the outfit.
Historically, this detail was exclusively a children's item. In the 1920s, the collar was adopted into adult women's fashion, becoming a symbol of the garcon style and the aesthetic of naive femininity. Later, in the 1960s, it regained popularity thanks to the fashion for minidresses and baby doll silhouettes.
Distinctive features
The main design feature is the complete absence of sharp corners. The collar edges always have a smooth, rounded shape.
The flat design is achieved by the absence of a collar stand—the collar is cut to lie flat across the shoulders and chest, without rising at the base of the neck. Traditionally, the Peter Pan collar is made of a fabric that contrasts with the rest of the garment. The most common variation is a white detail on a dark background.

The classic version is 5 to 7 centimeters wide. Modern designer interpretations often feature exaggeratedly large statement collars that completely cover the shoulders.

Lace, Richelieu embroidery, and beading or faux pearls are often used as decorative trim along the edge of the collar.
What to combine with
The Peter Pan collar is traditionally paired with A-line and A-line dresses. Strict styles in dark velvet or thick wool with a white collar create a recognizable style, often associated with Wednesday Addams or classic school uniforms.
In everyday wear, blouses with this collar are worn under crew-neck knit sweaters or cardigans. The rounded edges are exposed over smooth or textured knitwear.

To counteract the deliberate "naivety" and childishness of the details, stylists recommend playing with contrasting textures and styles. Romantic blouses are paired with rough leather jackets, straight-leg jeans, or tailored men's suit trousers with pleats.
Since the collar itself is a strong portrait accent, it precludes the use of massive necklaces, chains, and voluminous scarves. Only simple stud earrings or minimalist rings are acceptable as accessories.
