What is skinny jeans?
Skinny (from English) skinny (Skinny, skinny) is a style of extremely tight trousers or jeans that follow the contours of the body from the waist to the ankles.
When asked what skinny jeans are, stylists describe them as a "second skin" style. These pants don't crease or have any space between the fabric and the leg, fitting snugly all the way down.
Historically, the skinny silhouette originates from the skinny pants of 1970s punk culture. Skinny jeans gained widespread popularity as a staple of everyday wardrobes in the mid-2000s and 2010s, riding the wave of indie rock and grunge.

Distinctive features
Unlike straight-leg or slim-leg jeans, skinny jeans fit snugly around the thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. The leg opening is minimal at the very bottom, allowing for easy tuck-in into narrow-leg shoes.

To ensure comfort and mobility with this anatomical cut, elastic fibers are added to the denim. The percentage of elastane or spandex typically ranges from 2% to 5%, preventing stretching at the knees.
Skinny jeans come in high, mid, and low waist sizes. Regardless of the rise, the leg cut remains consistently narrow. An extreme variation of this style are jeggings—a hybrid of jeans and leggings, made from very thin stretch denim.

What to combine with
The main principle of skinny styling is based on the principle of volume contrast. Fitted bottoms look harmonious with voluminous tops: men's jackets, chunky knit sweaters, loose flannel shirts, and hoodies.
This style serves as a practical base for layered looks. Skinny jeans are paired with long knit cardigans, classic cotton trench coats, or straight-cut wool coats.

The slim ankle makes these jeans perfect for pairing with tall boots, including jockey styles, over-the-knee boots, and chimney boots. They also pair well with Chelsea boots, chunky lace-ups, and classic stiletto pumps.
For a relaxed smart-casual dress code, solid-color black or dark blue skinny jeans without any fraying or embellishments are appropriate. For a business context, pair them with a long, structured blazer, a basic turtleneck, and closed-toe leather shoes.
