What is a parka?
Parka — is an elongated insulated jacket designed to protect against extreme cold, wind and precipitation, and must have a hood.
Historically, parkas were made by Inuit (Eskimos) from caribou or seal skins. To ensure waterproofness, the material was impregnated with fish oil.

This item of clothing originated in military gear and became a staple of modern wardrobes. In the 1950s, the US Army developed the N-3B (Snorkel Parka) for pilots operating in extremely cold conditions.
Today, the parka is a staple piece of casual winter or mid-season outerwear. It harmoniously combines high utility with everyday comfort.
Distinctive features
A classic parka reaches mid-thigh or just below. This length covers the lower back and upper legs, providing reliable warmth.

A deep, voluminous hood is often trimmed with real or faux fur. This detail serves a practical purpose, protecting the face from icy wind and snow.
A built-in drawstring at the waist allows you to cinch the jacket to your body, preventing cold air from seeping in. The massive center zipper is hidden under a wide storm flap with snap or button closure.

A distinctive feature is the presence of spacious patch pockets with flaps. The outer layer of the jacket is made of dense blended fabrics (such as cotton and nylon) with a water-repellent finish, while the interior is lined with down or modern synthetic insulation.
What to combine with
For a casual look, a classic parka in olive, navy, or sand pairs beautifully with straight-leg jeans. The look is completed with oversized chunky knit sweaters and chunky lace-up boots.
The jacket can be worn over a hoodie for a sporty look. Joggers made of thick fleece and insulated winter sneakers would be a good choice for the bottom.

Minimalist styles in basic shades (black, graphite) without contrasting details fit into the smart-casual style. They can be worn over wool turtlenecks, tailored trousers, and Chelsea boots.
Oversized knit beanies and long, chunky scarves are the perfect accessories to pair with a parka. Thick leather or suede gloves complete the look.
