What are Oxfords?
Oxfords - These are classic shoes with closed lacing, considered the most formal and formal type of footwear.
The model's key design feature is that the side panels (the uppers) are sewn under the front part of the shoe (the vamp). This makes the tongue virtually invisible, and the lacing forms a tight V-shape. In the classic version, the uppers close completely, leaving no gap.

Historically, these shoes originated in Scotland and Ireland under the name "Balmorals." The modern name took hold in the 19th century, when they became popular among Oxford University students as a comfortable alternative to high boots. Oxfords entered the women's wardrobe in the 1920s, becoming a symbol of emancipation and the "garcon" style.
Main types
Despite their strict design, Oxfords have several variations, differing in cut and decorative elements.
- Adelaides: a model without side seams, where the lacing is designed in the shape of the letter U.
- Cap toe: Oxfords with an additional detail - a cut-off toe, which forms a transverse seam on the toe of the shoe.
- Wholecut: Shoes made from a single piece of leather with a single seam at the heel, characterized by a minimalist design.

- Oxford brogues: Models adorned with decorative perforations. They can be quarter, semi-brogue, or full brogues with a W-shaped toe (wingtip).
- Saddle: Two-tone shoes with a contrasting leather saddle-shaped insert across the instep.
What to combine with
In business attire, classic, smooth Oxford shoes are the perfect complement to tailored pantsuits, straight midi skirts, and structured jackets. These shoes support a formal dress code and add a polished touch to any look.

For a smart-casual look, Oxfords pair harmoniously with cropped trousers, chinos, basic shirts, and classic trench coats. The masculine silhouette of these shoes contrasts well with feminine pieces like pleated skirts, A-line dresses, and lightweight blouses.

Oxfords can be styled in a variety of ways: they can be worn barefoot, revealing the ankle for a visually lighter silhouette, or paired with statement socks for a layered, preppy look.
