What is suede?
Suede — is a soft, fat-tanned leather with a characteristic velvety surface, which is made from the skins of small animals (sheepskin, calfskin, goat skin or deerskin).
To answer the question of what suede is, from a technological standpoint, it's a material in which fats, such as fish oil or linseed oil, act as tanning agents. It's this processing process that gives the material its exceptional softness and pliability.

The term comes from the Polish word zamsz The manufacturing technology was initially developed and popularized to create soft gloves and clothing that did not restrict movement.
The key manufacturing feature is that, unlike velor, genuine suede has a pile on both sides—the face and the back. It's a fully porous material, making it highly breathable.
Distinctive features
The material has a matte, light-absorbing surface. The nap of suede adds depth and richness to any shade. Natural tones such as camel, chocolate, olive, and burgundy look particularly striking in this texture.

Suede is extremely soft to the touch and drapes easily. When bent, it doesn't form hard creases.
Natural suede is highly breathable and durable. Eco-suede, which is a woven or non-woven base with a polymer coating, visually imitates the original. The synthetic version often offers better water-repellent properties, but is inferior to the natural material in terms of temperature regulation.

The material is sensitive to moisture, street salt, and abrasion. To maintain its appearance, suede requires treatment with special protective sprays and cleaning with a crepe or rubber brush.
What to combine with
Matte suede works perfectly when paired with materials that have opposing properties. The best textured combinations are built on contrast: suede and smooth leather, suede and flowing silk or satin, suede and heavy denim.

For everyday looks, a sand-colored suede shirt jacket pairs harmoniously with straight-leg blue jeans and a basic white T-shirt.
Suede loafers or Chelsea boots offer a softer alternative to classic sleek shoes. They fit seamlessly into business and smart-casual dress codes, softening the formality of a suit.
A play of textures is used to create feminine silhouettes. A suede A-line midi skirt paired with a sheer cashmere turtleneck or silk blouse creates a classy and visually sophisticated look.
