Quiet luxury in clothing: what is this style and how to wear it

Sophia Müller 3 min read

What is quiet luxury?

Quiet luxury — is a clothing style and minimalist aesthetic focused on high-quality items without obvious branding. The movement's core principle is to demonstrate status through impeccable cuts and premium materials, rather than logos or recognizable prints. Brands representing this movement, such as Loro Piana, The Row, and Brunello Cucinelli, emphasize tactile sensations and exclusive production.

Premium fabric textures: cashmere and fine wool with perfect hidden seams

The style draws on the aesthetics of old money, but is more contemporary and less strictly tied to the traditional uniforms of exclusive country clubs. The concept is based on the idea of conscious consumption. The wardrobe is formed from durable basics that never go out of style, are easy to combine, and last for decades.

Distinctive features

The basic rule of the brand is the complete absence of visible logos, monograms, and flashy hardware, known as the no-logo approach. Clothing is crafted exclusively from natural and luxurious fabrics. Cashmere, rare vicuña wool, dense mulberry silk, fine suiting wool, Egyptian cotton, and high-quality full-grain leather are used in production.

A classic look in a quietly chic style: a dark blue wool coat, a silk blouse and wide-leg beige trousers

The color palette is built on neutral and muted tones. The base colors are beige, camel, navy, gray, off-white, black, and olive. The lack of bold patterns is offset by a play of textures: smooth silk paired with fluffy mohair, or matte leather with thick cotton.

The garments are distinguished by their impeccable fit. They are often made to order or carefully adjusted in the atelier, avoiding both excessive oversize and excessive tightness. The cut appears visually simple, but has a complex architectural structure with perfectly finished internal and external seams.

How to wear

The wardrobe foundation is often built on monochrome looks that visually elongate the silhouette. A classic example of such a combination is a cream-colored cashmere sweater paired with straight-leg wool trousers in a matching color. Outerwear, such as a double-breasted camel coat or a simple, unadorned trench coat, is paired with silk blouses and classic loafers.

Accessories are selected based on utility and high quality. The looks feature structured, rigid bags (such as roomy totes or satchels) and shoes made of smooth, matte leather without recognizable buckles. Metal hardware on bags and belts typically has a muted sheen.

Jewelry remains minimalist and discreet. The look is completed with thin gold chains, classic watches on leather straps, sleek signet rings, or diamond stud earrings. The main purpose of accessories is to subtly complete the look without stealing the show.
