What is a sword belt?
Women's harness — is a decorative accessory consisting of a system of interwoven belts that is worn over clothing to create accents on the figure.
The term is derived from the French word porte-épée , which translates as "to carry a sword." Initially, the sword belt was exclusively a military accessory and was intended to attach bladed weapons or firearms to the belt.
Over time, the accessory lost its utilitarian function and became a subcultural aesthetic. Today, it has become a staple in women's wardrobes as a standalone stylistic tool for emphasizing the waist, bust, or shoulder line.

Main types of harnesses
Modern sword belt designs range from minimalist to complex. Accessories are divided into several categories based on the weave and materials used.
- Classic (basic): A system of smooth leather straps that crisscross across the chest or back. They are most often shaped like geometric Xs or Ys.
- Corset: Styles with a wide, tight belt at the waist, from which thin straps extend to the shoulders or neck. This design creates a visual cinching effect and creates an hourglass silhouette.
- Chokers: The design combines a collar on the neck and straps extending from it to the chest or waist, focusing attention on the décolleté area.
- Decorative (evening): models made not from leather, but from metal chains, pearl threads, rhinestones or elastic textile bands.

What to wear with a harness
Integrating a harness into a casual or evening look is based on the principle of contrast. Rough belts and chunky metal hardware work best with soft, flowing or simple, smooth fabrics: cotton, chiffon, silk, and fine knits.

A classic everyday combination is a black or brown leather harness over a loose white men's shirt. This stylistic trick helps structure a loose silhouette and add a graphic touch to the look.
The accessory is often worn over a flowing maxi dress, a simple silk slip dress, or a closed knit midi dress. Leather belts add complexity to the outfit, tone down the romanticism, and add a textured contrast.

In layered outfits, the harness can be worn as a base layer under an unbuttoned, oversized jacket. Alternatively, wear the harness directly over a buttoned, classic jacket to secure the fabric and accentuate the waist.
