What is gorpcore?
Gorpcore Gorpcore is a clothing style in which functional gear for hiking, camping, and outdoor activities is used as everyday urban attire. To understand what gorpcore is, just imagine hiking gear on the streets of a big city.

The term was coined in 2017 by journalist Jason Chen. It derives from the acronym GORP (Good Ol' Raisins and Peanuts), a traditional mountaineering snack consisting of raisins and nuts.
The style is based on the principle of utilitarianism: form is completely subordinate to function. The top priorities are weather protection, comfort, and technology, rather than traditional aesthetics.
Distinctive features
The gorpcore aesthetic is built on the use of professional outdoor gear in everyday life. The style is easily recognizable by several key characteristics.
- Technological materials: use of membrane fabrics (Gore-Tex), wear-resistant nylon (ripstop), light down and temperature-regulating fleece (Polartec).
- Functional details: The clothing is equipped with carabiners, drawstrings, toggle fasteners, sealed waterproof zippers, reflective elements and roomy patch pockets.

- Basic wardrobe items: hardshell jackets (windbreakers), puffer vests, cargo pants, fleece track jackets and technical trekking shoes (trail running shoes, hiking boots).
- Specific palette: the predominance of natural shades (khaki, brown, gray, moss) in combination with bright signal colors (neon orange, yellow, electric).
How to wear
Gorpcore doesn't require you to dress completely like a tourist. The key principle is to cleverly mix high-tech pieces with casual streetwear.
- Integration into casual: Pair one or two technical pieces with a basic wardrobe. For example, a membrane jacket worn over a simple cotton T-shirt and straight-leg jeans.
- Layering: The use of the "onion" hiking principle as a stylistic device. A base layer, insulating fleece, and storm jacket are worn together, often unbuttoned to show off the layers.

- Contrast of textures: combining rough trekking shoes with a massive sole (for example, Salomon or Hoka sneakers) with classic wide trousers or casual skirts.

- Accents through accessories: the use of fanny packs, nylon backpacks, bucket hats and beanies as finishing touches to an urban look.
