What is a sword belt?
Women's harness — is a decorative accessory consisting of a system of straps that fit around the body in the shoulders, chest and waist area and are worn over clothing.

Historically, the term referred to a piece of military equipment—a system of leather belts designed for carrying bladed weapons or firearms. The sword belt entered the modern women's wardrobe thanks to runway collections, particularly those of Alexander McQueen and Hervé Léger. Designers transformed this utilitarian military item into a statement accessory.
The main function of the modern harness is architectural. It creates a rigid geometric frame over soft fabrics, accentuating the silhouette and adding a grunge or avant-garde aesthetic to the look.
Main types
Accessory designs range from simple lines to complex multi-layered structures. Several basic formats are distinguished:
- Classic (X-shaped or Y-shaped): basic straps that go over the shoulders and waist, crossing at the back or chest.
- Corset: A wide design with an emphasis on the waist and multiple horizontal straps, visually imitating a rigid corset.
- Minimalistic: thin leather cords or chains, often connecting a choker around the neck to the chest or waist line.

Based on the material they are made from, harnesses are divided into those made of thick smooth leather, soft eco-leather, sports-style textile straps, and metal elements.
What to combine with
The harness requires a neutral background, so it works best with contrasting textures and volumes.

- With a basic white oversized shirt or shirt dress. The harness structures the loose fit and creates a contrast between the strict office base and the daring accessory.
- With romantic dresses. The combination of rough leather with flowing fabrics such as chiffon, silk or lace creates a complex look at the intersection of femininity and grunge.
- With smooth knitwear. Sheer turtlenecks, long sleeves, and fitted dresses in neutral shades provide the perfect backdrop for the intricate geometry of the straps.
- With a voluminous jacket. The accessory is worn over a basic top or T-shirt under an unbuttoned men's jacket, adding layering without overloading the silhouette.
