What is a face corrector: types and application rules

Camille Durand 2 min read

What is a face corrector?

Corrector A concealer is a highly pigmented cosmetic product designed to locally camouflage color imperfections on the skin based on the principles of coloristics. Its main difference from a concealer is its mode of action. A concealer blends with the skin tone for an overall evenness, while a corrector uses contrasting shades (green, purple, peach) to neutralize specific color imperfections.

Корректор - 1

The product has a thick creamy or liquid texture. It is applied directly to areas of pigmentation, inflammation, or bruising, sparing areas with an even skin tone.

Main types

The color palette of correctors is based on the color wheel, where opposite shades neutralize each other.

  • Green Corrector: neutralizes redness, inflammation, spider veins (rosacea) and acne scars.
  • Peach, salmon or orange corrector: Covers blue and purple tones. Light peach is used to conceal dark circles under the eyes on fair skin, while orange is used on darker skin.
  • Purple or lavender corrector: neutralizes yellowness, dull complexion and age spots.
  • Yellow Corrector: conceals violet-blue undertones such as fresh bruises or visible capillaries.

How to use

Apply the corrector to prepped, moisturized skin before applying foundation and classic beige concealer. This allows you to neutralize any color nuances during the base makeup application.

Apply the product precisely with a small flat brush or your fingertips. Blend only the edges of the application to ensure the main pigment remains on the blemish itself. A minimal amount of product is required, applied in a thin layer to prevent makeup from creasing and creating a thick mask effect.

Color corrector must be topped with a product that matches your skin tone. Applying foundation or concealer over the corrector will hide any unnatural pastel shade and even out the overall contour of your face.
