What is the Hollywood Wave?

Hollywood Wave - This is a classic evening hairstyle, which consists of smooth, continuous curls in the shape of the letter S, lying in a single canvas.

Smooth, continuous S-shaped curls that form a single piece

The style originated during Hollywood's Golden Age (1920s–1940s) and was inspired by the "Marseille Wave" hairdressing technique. The hairstyle became iconic thanks to actresses Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, and Marlene Dietrich, becoming synonymous with cinematic glamour.

Distinctive features

In this hairstyle, the hair isn't separated into individual textured strands. After curling, they're carefully brushed until a seamless, wavy pattern is formed.

The curls have a clearly defined, symmetrical geometry along the entire length of the hair. The style is characterized by perfect smoothness, mirror-like shine, and a complete lack of frizz (frizz-free).

Traditionally, the hairstyle features a deep, asymmetrical side parting. This parting sweeps the bulk of the hair over one shoulder, leaving the other side of the neck exposed.

What to combine with

The Hollywood wave complements floor-length evening dresses, silk slip dresses, and mermaid silhouettes. Suitable fabric textures include smooth satin, silk, or thick velvet.

This hairstyle looks best with an off-the-shoulder bodice, a corset top, or a sweetheart neckline. A deep V-neckline also highlights the hair draped over one shoulder.

Classic aesthetics require matching makeup. Red lipstick, crisp, graphic eyeliner, and an even, matte skin tone are the perfect complement.

Large statement earrings (chandeliers, crystal drop earrings, or pearls) should be worn on the exposed side of the neck. It's recommended to avoid massive necklaces to avoid overcrowding the portrait area.
