What is a Bayer?
Bayer — is a specialist in the fashion industry responsible for selecting and purchasing collections of clothing, footwear, and accessories for retail stores or private clients.

The term comes from the English word buyer (buyer). In the fashion industry, this specialist serves as the main link between brand manufacturers and the end consumer.
The key characteristic of this profession is working at the intersection of fashion and commerce. When formulating purchases, the specialist relies not only on visual aesthetics and current catwalk trends, but also on sales analytics, an understanding of the target audience, and rigorous budgeting.
Main types
Depending on the specifics of the work, there are several areas of buyer activity.
Retail buyer (fashion buyer) Works for department stores, multi-brand boutiques, and mass-market brands. He creates a product matrix, attends fashion weeks and showrooms, and purchases collections wholesale for the season ahead. The main criterion for his work is the commercial success of the selected items.

Personal buyer Works with private clients. Their responsibilities include sourcing and purchasing specific items, which are often exclusive, limited edition, or unavailable in the client's country of residence. These items can include rare handbags or shoes from private sales.
Wholesale intermediary (buyer-buyer) helps local stores source goods from large factories or wholesale warehouses. It monitors the quality of shipments and organizes logistics from manufacturing countries such as Italy or China.
How to use a buyer's services
Unlike a stylist, who creates a look from scratch, a personal buyer is approached with a specific request. The client specifies the brand, item number, desired size, and color of the item they are looking for.

A buyer's services are essential for purchasing luxury goods that require a strong brand purchase history. These include Hermès Birkin or Kelly bags, as well as items from quickly sold-out designer collaborations.
The process begins with the provision of a reference. The buyer finds the desired item through their network of contacts in international boutiques, authenticates the item, and completes the purchase. A specialist then arranges international shipping, taking customs regulations and duties into account.

A personal buyer is paid either as a fixed commission or as a percentage of the purchased item's price. This typically ranges from 10% to 20%, depending on the complexity of the order and the rarity of the item.
