What is an aviator jacket?
Aviator jacket — is a short outerwear of a straight or voluminous cut with a wide turn-down collar and contrasting trim made of fur or sheepskin.
The model was developed in the early 20th century for bomber pilots. Specifically, the iconic B-3 jacket appeared in 1934 and was designed to protect pilots in open cockpits at sub-zero temperatures.
The traditional aviator jacket is made from tanned sheepskin. The smooth surface of the material is on the outside, while the thick fur is on the inside, providing excellent thermal insulation and protection from the elements.
Distinctive features
The massive turn-down collar is completely covered in fur or sheepskin. It can be raised and secured with special straps to protect the neck and lower face from the wind.
