What is a campaign?

Campaign (from the English campaign - advertising campaign) is a series of professional photographs and videos created by a fashion brand to present a new collection and convey its main idea.

Unlike a lookbook, which is a technical catalog of clothing against a neutral background, a campaign focuses on the emotions, atmosphere, and DNA of a brand. It tells a visual story through complex styling, elaborate sets, and model performances.

The main goal of such a shoot is to sell not just a specific product, but a lifestyle and the current season's aesthetic. A large team is brought in to create the campaign: an art director, photographer, stylist, makeup artist, and set designer. Brand ambassadors or international celebrities often become the faces of the advertising campaign.

Main types

Seasonal campaigns (Spring/Summer, Autumn/Winter) are the most ambitious advertising projects for fashion houses. They set the visual tone for the next six months and are featured on billboards, in glossy magazines, and in the windows of flagship boutiques.

Capsule collection campaigns are local shoots timed to coincide with the launch of a limited edition line, collaboration, or holiday drop. Image campaigns, or manifesto campaigns, shift the focus from clothing to the brand's social values, communicating ideas of sustainability or inclusivity.

A separate category is made up of digital campaigns created specifically for social media and online platforms. They often include elements of 3D graphics, CGI animation, and short viral videos.

How to use

For fashion brands, campaigns are a key marketing tool. Footage from the shoot is used to design offline stores, create visual content for websites, and launch targeted advertising.

Analyzing campaigns from leading fashion houses allows us to predict macrotrends. The choice of locations, model types, and makeup reflects global changes in the beauty and fashion industries.

In your personal wardrobe, stylistic solutions from advertising campaigns can easily be adapted to everyday needs. You can borrow ideas for layering or combining contrasting textures, such as the mix of rough leather and sheer chiffon shown on the model.
