What is a bodysuit?
Bodysuit — is a tight-fitting, one-piece garment that covers the torso and groin area, visually resembling a one-piece swimsuit.
The main design feature of the garment is the closure in the crotch area. Flat snaps, hooks, or fabric Velcro are typically used. This fastening prevents the fabric from peeking out from under the waistband of trousers or skirts and prevents it from bunching up during active movement.

Historically, the bodysuit originated from the leotard, a leotard worn by gymnasts in the 19th century. It became a staple in women's everyday wardrobes in the 1950s, thanks to American designer Claire McCardell. Its status as a cult staple was cemented in the 1980s with the release of Donna Karan's "Seven Simple Things" collection.
Main types
Everyday (basic) styles are made from cotton, viscose, or thick knit blends. They can be turtlenecks, classic T-shirts, tank tops, or long sleeves, serving as a versatile base layer.

Lingerie and shapewear options are made from lace, translucent mesh, silk, or dense compression materials with added elastane and spandex. These items are used as underwear, for body shaping, or as a standalone element of lingerie style.

Evening bodysuits are made from elegant fabrics such as velvet, satin, or lurex, and are often embellished with sequins. They feature complex, architectural designs, such as deep necklines, open backs, asymmetrical details, or voluminous puff sleeves.
Sportswear models are made from high-tech synthetic fibers that wick away moisture. They are designed for intense workouts, fitness, dance, and yoga.
What to combine with
The bodysuit pairs well with mid- and high-waist bottoms. It pairs perfectly with high-waisted jeans, tailored tailored trousers, and pencil skirts. The tight fit creates a sleek silhouette without excess bulk around the waist.

In layered looks, basic turtleneck bodysuits or sleek crewnecks provide a practical backdrop. They're worn under structured double-breasted jackets, voluminous knit cardigans, or oversized, unbuttoned shirts.
Elegant evening outfits are built on contrasting volumes. Bodysuits with accent sleeves, draping, or plunging necklines are balanced by wide palazzo pants or flowing silk midi and maxi skirts.
