What is a bando?
Bando - is an element of women's clothing in the form of a wide strip of fabric that fits tightly around the chest, completely devoid of straps and sleeves.
The term comes from the French word bandeau , which translates as "bandage" or "ribbon." The main design feature of a bandeau is its secure fit without the need for shoulder support. This support is achieved through the elasticity of the material itself, the presence of silicone bands along the inner edge, or rigid corset inserts (bones).

Historically, the bandeau shape was used as far back as antiquity (strophions in Ancient Greece). This cut entered modern fashion in the 1920s as an alternative to rigid corsets, and then became popular in beachwear in the 1950s.
Main types
In the modern wardrobe, the bandeau cut is used to create various clothing items:
- Bandeau tops: A standalone element of everyday wardrobe. Made from knitwear, cotton, denim, or leather, they are most often cropped, revealing the midriff.
- Bandeau bras: A strapless undergarment. They can be seamless (for discreet wear) or lace. They are worn with off-the-shoulder clothing, slip dresses, or tops with thin straps.

- Bandeau swimsuits: Bras from two-piece or one-piece swimsuits without ties at the neck. Their main advantage is the ability to achieve an even tan on the décolleté and shoulders.
- Bandeau dresses: Summer sundresses or evening dresses, the bodice of which is cut like a bandage, leaving the shoulder line and collarbone completely open.

What to combine with
Since a cropped bandeau top reveals a lot of the upper body, it's recommended to pair it with high-waisted bottoms to balance the proportions. Wide-leg palazzo pants, straight-leg jeans, or maxi skirts are ideal for this look.

A basic knit bandeau serves as a functional base layer in smart-casual layered looks. It's perfect under a voluminous classic jacket, an unbuttoned oversized shirt, or a sheer blouse.
Structured bandeau tops in dense fabrics (satin, velvet, faux leather) are paired with classic pantsuits or pencil skirts to create formal yet elegant evening looks. Stretchy sporty bandeau tops are worn with joggers, biker shorts, and oversized bomber jackets.
