What is a balloon skirt?
Balloon skirt (from English) bubble skirt ) is a voluminous style of skirt or dress, the hem of which is folded inward and sewn to the lining, creating a rounded, airy silhouette.
This architectural cut adds accentuated volume at the hips and tapers smoothly toward the hem. Visually, the shape resembles an inverted unblown bud or a hot air balloon.
The silhouette was introduced into fashion in the 1950s by Cristóbal Balenciaga and Christian Dior. Initially, this complex design technique was used exclusively in evening wear to create voluminous ball gowns.

The garment's architecture is based on the difference in proportions between the layers of fabric.
