What is a baguette bag?
Baguette — is a small women's bag of an elongated rectangular shape with a short strap, designed to be worn on the shoulder tightly under the arm.

The model was created by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 for the Italian fashion house Fendi. The name of the accessory directly refers to the traditional French bread. The bag's design was intended to be carried in the same way the French often carry a baguette from the bakery—tucked under the arm.
The bag gained its cult status and the title of the first "it-bag" thanks to the TV series "Sex and the City." In the show, it became a recognizable signature piece for the leading character, Carrie Bradshaw, leading to a surge in popularity worldwide.
Distinctive features

- Form: A horizontally elongated rectangle. The structure can have either a rigid geometric frame that holds its shape well or softer, rounded corners.
- Strap: Short, often with a slight length adjustment via buckles on the sides. The bag fits snugly against the body in the armpit area, providing comfort while walking, but can also be carried simply by hand.
- Clasp: Traditionally, it closes with a wide flap. The center of the flap features an accent detail: a large metal buckle, a brand logo, or a hidden magnetic clasp.
- Capacity: Compact size, designed exclusively for the bare minimum. Only the most essential items fit inside: a smartphone, keys, a cardholder, and lipstick.
What to combine with
Casual style. The baguette bag fits seamlessly into the aesthetics of the 1990s and 2000s. It's often paired with straight-leg, mid- or low-rise jeans, a basic white T-shirt or crop top, and a slouchy, menswear-inspired blazer. In this context, the baguette adds a subtle vintage touch to the look.

Evening looks. For formal occasions, baguettes embroidered with sequins, glass beads, and beads, or made of smooth metallic leather, are traditionally worn. These styles complement silk slip dresses perfectly, paired with minimalist sandals on thin straps.

Smart casual. A simple baguette made of smooth or embossed leather in basic shades (black, chocolate, burgundy) is perfect for more formal looks. This accessory pairs beautifully with loose-fitting pantsuits, oversized shirts, and classic leather loafers.
