What is bouclé?
Boucle — is a fancy yarn with decorative knots, loops, and thickenings spaced at regular intervals along its entire length. The term comes from the French word boucler , which translates as "to curl" or "to form curls."

Bouclé fabric is created by weaving these yarns together in a plain weave. The result is a dense yet loose material with a textured, knobby surface.
Coco Chanel brought the material worldwide popularity in the mid-20th century with her iconic bouclé tweed suit. Traditionally, bouclé is made from wool, but modern blends often include cotton, silk, viscose, and synthetic fibers for increased durability.
Distinctive features and properties
The fabric's main feature is its distinctive texture. The surface of the material is always textured, voluminous, and soft to the touch, visually reminiscent of astrakhan fur.
Thanks to the voluminous and springy structure of the yarns, bouclé garments are virtually wrinkle-free and retain their shape well. The loose weave and wool base create an airy cushion that provides excellent thermal insulation.

This material has specific cutting characteristics when manufactured. The fabric is very frayed at the edges, requiring careful seams. The edges of garments are often decorated with fringe or thick braid to prevent unraveling.
The variegated and uneven texture of bouclé has the ability to conceal imperfections. It effectively disguises uneven seams and minor fit flaws.
How to wear and what to combine with
A classic bouclé jacket fits seamlessly into a smart-casual style. Pair it with basic straight-leg jeans, a white T-shirt, and leather loafers for a more casual look.

Bouclé skirt suits are paired with smooth textures. Silk blouses or satin tops create the necessary contrast between textured and flowing materials. Voluminous bouclé cocoon coats are worn with simple bottoms: tailored skinny trousers, leather leggings, or sheath dresses.

When creating an outfit, it's important to maintain a balanced volume. Since bouclé fabric visually widens the silhouette due to its texture, it's recommended to pair it with smooth, semi-fitted or fitted clothing. Accessories should be minimalist: crisp, smooth leather bags and shoes without overly embellished details.
